Jonathan Ward Josephine’s Rose Candle*

DSC00665

In the UK, it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight some fun gift ideas which are a move away from the trashy and the cliched. The first of these suggestions would be the candle above.

One of Jonathan Ward’s newest offerings is the Josephine’s Rose candle – a rich and heady mix of rose and amber. Described as a velvet ball-gown of a scent, this is rose at its opulent finest – named for the Empress Josephine who was (and this is an understatement) obsessed with the flower.

Before you even light the double wicks, the room is filled with the rose fragrance – a lighter version of the scent which blossoms when the candle burns. The fragrance is deep and luxurious. The base notes of amber keeps the rose from becoming sickly sweet or veering into ‘old-lady’ territory.

Presented in hand-blown Italian glass, the candle is a thing of beauty – so much so I would consider keeping it for myself!

The large candle is priced at £32
