The moment that there is a chill in the air, and nights get longer, I always seem to reach for dark polishes. There’s just something about dark, shiny, short nails which is just so chic and is so easy to wear. Whether it’s with an oversize cashmere sweater, or a sparkly party dress dark nails just work.
I’m partial to the classics -OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark and Lady in Black, Essie’s Licquorice; they’re are all firm favourites, but when I was in New York I spied Essie’s new Fall 2013 collection, and I just couldn’t get over this – After School Boy Blazer. Don’t get me wrong, I have a wide variety of dark blues: Chanel‘s Blue Satin, Essie’s Midnight Cami and a YSL which I bought a while back that lost the sticker – but there was just something about the newest shade.
Rather than my other blues – this one has no sparkle, no glitter, no shimmer. It’s a straight up inky blue, which dries with blackened undertones. The colour dries opaque in two coats, and my only little niggle is the brush – I bought mine in Boots in the UK and the brush doesn’t feel the same as my US Essie polishes. It feels shorter and wider somehow. Also, the formula is quite runny, so the brush makes application feel a little clumsy. A quick coat of my Dior Gel topcoat and I’ good to go.
