I’m such a fan of Laura Mercier – the colours are always so flattering, the formulas are perfection, and their packaging is pretty awesome too!
Launched last month is the new Smooth Finish Foundation – perfect if you’re looking for a new formula for the colder months. Packaged in a shiny dark brown compact, this foundation really is one of those wonderful no-mess, no-fuss products. The compact is in two parts – the top is the most sublime powder, and underneath is a large, circular latex sponge. The sponge isn’t one of the foamy things which I normally throw out the moment I get it, but this is much closer to the sponges I buy from MAC and from Shu Uemura.
Ok, so onto the formula. Powders for people can really seem daunting. I’m always nervous that powder formulas will look unnatural or cakey, but with this there is nothing to fear. There are a multitude of shades to choose from – 20, and if you have pink-toned, yellow-toned or dark skins, there really is a shade for everyone. I usually apply using a large fluffy brush, then use the sponge on problem areas. It applies flawlessly, and once it’s on, it’s on although it is completely weightless. I used this before a rather hectic day, and at the end of it I still looked fresh (even if I didn’t feel the same.)
The powder is really incredible, but if it isn’t enough for you, it can also be used wet. I should admit, I have’t tried this option yet as I’m so happy with the application of the dry powder.
The Smooth Finish Foundation Powder is priced at £32.00 and is available from www.lauramercier.co.uk
