Urban Decay Shattered Face Case*

Since I was little, makeup compacts have fascinated me. I still love the way they look, and they still keep me occupied for hours as I play about with the products within, and Urban Decay‘s newest offering is one to watch

The Shattered Face Case is limited edition for the holidays – and I whole heartedly urge you to go and find one.

The top level is where you’ll find a majority of the goodies – 5 eyeshadows, lip colour and eye liner. The eye shadows are really well thought out. From left to right there is:  Nameless (medium gray-brown satin), Remix (rich purple shimmer w/tonal micro-glitter), Shakedown (rich brown-gunmetal satin), Minor Sin (champagne-pink satin) and Bleach (yellow-beige matte). As you would expect from Urban Decay, the quality of them is great – soft enough to easily apply and blend, but with some serious staying power.

For a more natural look I have been applying Bleach all over my eyelid as a base, with a soft layer of Shakedown over my lid, and a sprinkling of Minor Sin in the corners of my eyes and on my brow bone. Without a primer, they last for a good 8 hours on me, with absolutely no creasing. To amp it up for night, I pat on a little Nameless over the lid, then line with Remix – super simple, but it looks like I’ve tried way harder than I actually have.

The lip pencil is full size, and is the shade Lovechild. A cool-toned pink, this is one of those products you can really build up. For day I’ve been using it over a lipbalm for a sheer wash of pink, but for something more formal, it can transform into a cool toned pink which creates a statement lip.

I’ve never tried Urban Decay’s eyeliners before (major oops) and I’m wondering where they’ve been all my life. This mini version is in Zero and is the creamiest blackest black liner you could ask for. I line the top waterline with this, and it doesn’t move all day. The colour is really rich, and has definitely made me a fan.

On the bottom level you find two gorgeous blushes: Overexposed a dusty rose and Temper a soft baby pink, as well as Glint a soft pink-champagne shimmer highlighter.

I really couldn’t ask for a more perfect set of powders. For a low-key, natural look I use Overexposed on the apples of my cheeks, with a light swipe unto my temple. If I’m looking for something a little brighter I go for Temper. The pigment and wear time for both is great – I don’t need to touch-up all day, and they both look healthy and natural. Temper reminds me of NARSDeepthroat, which I finished about a month ago, so I couldn’t be happier with the colours.

Last but not least is Glint – the highlighter. It’s a gorgeous champagne colour, and the shimmer particles are so fine you don’t need to worry about looking too shiny or glittery. I am so picky when it comes to highlighters, but this is just perfect swiped on my cheeks over the blush and a touch of bronzer.

I can’t stress how well thought out Shattered is. With face palettes especially, I usually feel that maybe a third isn’t what I would choose. Maybe the colours or the formulas are a little off. Not so with Urban Decay. The shadows are all beautiful, and work perfectly for day-to-night, the lip colour and liner are complete staples, and the blushes are gorgeous! The packaging is pretty spot on too – The split level idea means that the shadows and blushes don’t muss each other up (a pet hate of mine), and each level comes equipped with a large mirror, meaning you don’t need to fumble about mid-application. The shattered mirror design on top is fun, and means that it doesn’t disappear into the corners of my bag like 99% of my possessions. My one warning is that if you’re regularly manicured with regular polish, you should probably be a little careful opening the layers – they shut tight and can need a little wrestling to open, but if that means my bags aren’t covered in sparkly powder I’m happy.

I’ve been using the palette all weekend, and am completely in love with it. If you have a little stash at work or in your bag,  or if your planning a trip, you should definitely grab one of these! All I need is a lip balm, bronzer and this, and I’m good to go!

The palette is priced at £30 and is available from Debenhams, House of Fraser, www.BeautyBay.com, and www.lookfantastic.com
