For me, August is the height of summer. When I was little, we always took our vacations in August, squeezing in as much beach time that the month would allow, so since we’re entering the second week, working on my tan is one of my top priorities. When I was younger, I was all about getting as tan as possible. I experimented with a whole bunch of different techniques, the worst one being only applying lotion when I felt myself burning (in midsummer Dubai heat!). Needless to say, I’m way more cautious now – I just like getting a little golden colour rather than aiming for brown, and Bioderma make it so easy to enjoy the sun safely with their Photoderm Bronz in SPF50.
Most experts recommend starting your vacay off using SPF50, it’s really as high is necessary, and using it for the first week or so means you don’t need to worry about turning a shade of lobster. I adore the spray application for the sunscreen – it means you can easily reach your back, bottom and the back of your legs which are normally tricky to get to, and the oily consistency means it feels super nourishing to sun-dried skin.
Once you’ve finished laying out for the day, I always think that it’s so important to use after-sun. Despite feeling beautifully cooling on the skin (stick it in the fridge before using if you want to really cool down) I always think that they make your tan develop faster and last longer. The Apres-Soleil has a light, milky texture with a delicate fresh scent. It just smells like summertime and it really calms my skin.
If you still need to stock up on your sun care, do it now! The sunscreen is on offer for £17.20 and the after sun for is now £8.71 both at Escentual.
