If you were to take a peek into my eyeshadow box right this second, I could pretty much guarantee that you’d remark on just how many shades of taupe, brown and chestnut there was. Everyone does. The usual question is ‘how many shades of brown do you need?’ but honestly, I rotate through the colours at an alarming rate. Well, I did, because I’ve had a bit of colour injected into my collection in the form of Too Faced’s Sweet Peach Eye Palette.
I’m not quite sure how, but I managed to miss most of the furore abut the collection when it was released in the US last year, but when I caught sight of it last month, I just had to have it. Not only is the packaging just adorable (I’m sorry, but just look at that little peachy face!) but the colours seemed very wearable. There are a handful of my beloved taupes and browns sprinkled amongst pinks and peaches. The palette looked like just the thing I needed to update my look right in time for spring!
When the palette arrived, I don’t think I could have been happier. It was prettier than I’d even imagined, and the mix of matte and shimmering shades felt perfectly balanced. It’s a collection of shadows which is super versatile, and I’ve reached for it as much on days when I’m after a little subtle definition as I do when I want to create something more dramatic.
The left hand side of the palette is dedicated to what I consider to be the most casual of the shades. If I’m just heading to work, I tend to sweep Cobbler over my lids and blend a little Peaches ‘N’ Cream into my inner corners. Cobbler is a stunning pinky toned taupe which blends effortlessly and gives eyes a subtle sheen. I sometimes like to blend a little Caramelized into my lash line.
The centre shades are some of my absolute favourites. Bellini is the most fabulous shimmering pink which looks so pretty if I want something a little different. Puree is also the most fabulous matte brown. Soft enough for seamless blending, it looks so sophisticated when used in the crease. This section also has the requisite peaches and pinks in the form of Just Peachy (a blue toned glittery pink) and Candied Peach (a perfect warm peach shade). The colours are seriously pigmented, but surprisingly easy to use. Blended into the lid, and paired with a chocolatey crease colour, it’s a fun way to inject a little life into my otherwise neutral makeup look.
The right hand side of the palette is where is gets deep and moody. Peach Pit is a browny-plum which shimmers seductively with a pink micro-glitter. Talk Derby to Me is an inky navy shot through sparkle. Charmed, I’m Sure is also an absolutely stunning matte – it’s a seriously pretty cool toned taupe which is perfect for creating a stunning monochrome look.
