I’m not sure about you, but when I’m super busy I eek out little moments of relaxation wherever I can find them. Pretty much the whole of 2018 has been a busy blur, and while I wouldn’t change a second of it, it has left me feeling pretty wiped out, so when I can grab an hour under the guise of getting my nails done, I’ll grab it!
So, when I got the chance to head over to Edinburgh’s stunning Nail Yard salon, I jumped at the chance. Situated right on the borders of Bruntsfield and Morningside, it’s a haven for those looking for a bit of a pamper right in the centre of Edinburgh. I popped in after work one evening to try a Signature Manicure with Gel Polish.
The first thing I noticed was just how many polishes they have on offer – there are literally hundreds! No matter if you’re after a bold or a neutral, there will be at least a handful of shades to choose from! Since the salon is geared towards offering treatments which use the least amount of chemicals and highest amount of natural ingredients, the polishes of choice come from Jessica, Orly and EVC and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a prettier rainbow of colour options!
The salon is an absolute haven from the hustle and bustle outside, and the treatment itself was heavenly. I was intrigued, when the treatment began with a Fig candle being lit, but it all became clear when they used the oil from the candle at the end of the treatment for a heavenly hand massage. Nails were filed, shaped and buffed, whilst my cuticles were tidied up – then it’s time for the polish! I opted for ‘Red Flare’ – a rather fetching bright red which was perfect for perking up the grey weather!
Once the polish was on, it was time for exfoliation! My hands and arms were scrubbed to get rid of any dead skin cells, leaving them silky smooth – and once the scrub was removed, the hot oil from the fig massage candle was used to moisturise my hands and arms.
Heavenly though, doesn’t even come close to describing the experience. From the stunning salon through to the dreamy treatment, it was such a fabulous spot to unwind after a busy day working.
The manicure was absolutely faultless, and what really stood out was the care taken in every aspect of the experience. From lighting a candle to scent the treatment as well as to use the oil for a massage, the importance of detail at the Nail Yard is paramount. There is even a fabulous selection of products to purchase too – Margaret Dabbs dominates, with products and gift sets a plenty.
The Signature Manicure with Gel Polish is priced at £40 and can be booked here
