When it comes to lip glosses, it can be tempting to cheap-out when it comes to clear formulas. After all, how different can a premium gloss be that different from a drugstore one when there’s no pigment involved? The answer is very.
A couple of weeks back I was invited to a dreamy brunch at Harvey Nichols Edinburgh, where the team from Hourglass discussed all things beauty over a glorious vegan brunch. It was pretty much the perfect way to start a morning, and as if a few hours chatting about makeup wasn’t a treat enough, we were sent home clutching goodie bags filled to the brim with Hourglass products which really was the dream.
I had hardly got back to the car before ripping into the goodies, and one of the first products I tried was the Hourglass Unreal High Shine Lip Gloss in Halo. It’s an achingly chic product – all gilded lid and weighted, so it feels like a real treat to use. One of 18 shades to choose from, Halo is the perfect choice if you’re after a subtle sheen, or if you’re looking for something to layer over the top of lipsticks.
With their Unreal glosses, Hourglass promises to break the rules. Rather than the regular goopy, sticky stuff, Halo is a beautifully slick gloss which smoothes on the lips, leaving them feeling silky and hydrated. The gloss feels almost pillowy to wear, and the doe foot applicator gives a generous slick on the lips. Even though it’s technically clear, Halo has a subtle golden glitter running through it, which although delicate, leaves lips looking plump and juicy. The gloss has a beautiful minty scent which disappears upon application, and it wears for a good few hours before needing to be reapplied.
