When it comes to my lockdown beauty routine, less is most definitely more. On a daily basis, I feel like I’m dressed up if I’m wearing mascara, and the only days when you’ll find me with a full face of makeup on, are when I’ve got Zoom meetings on the calendar. I’m quite enjoying the opportunity to give my skin a rest, and embrace an easy daily routine.
Despite the fact that I’m taking a more casual approach to my daily makeup routine, I always feel 100 times better when I’ve got a little makeup on. This usually boils down to brow gel, a bit of eye liner and bronzer and some lip balm, and Pixi’s new +Rose Lip Nourisher has quickly become a most-reached for product.
Completely vegan, the balm hydrates lips whilst also giving a subtle tint and sheen. It’s exactly what I’ve been needing, as the colour is so pretty and subtle, it’s perfect for casual days and natural makeup looks. With a hydrating rose-infused treatment core, the balm works to soften lips, and thanks to the pretty, sheer texture of the balm, you can even use it as a sheer cream blush if you’re in need of a little pep.
Pixi +Rose Lip Nourisher is priced at £10 and is available +Rose Lip Nourisher (UK)
One of my little pre-COVID-19 rituals which I seriously miss, is my once a month visit to Edinburgh’s Zen Lifestyle for a microdermabrasion session which left my skin feeling brand new. I’ve been trying to replicate the feeling at home, so it felt like perfect timing when Ole Henriksen sent over their brand new Lemonade Smoothing Scrub.
Coming right in time for spring, the scrub is completely vegan, and is designed to instantly retexturize skin, reduce the appearance of pores, and soften skin. Using a mix of chemical and physical exfoliants, it’s an absolute joy to use, with a slushy consistency which is unlike any other scrub I’ve tried.
Obviously, it smells amazing thanks to the mix of lemon and sugar, and my skin absolutely loves it too. Even though it can get dry and sensitised, I’ve found it needs a good exfoliation, and this is it! I love the mix of grit and tingle. With the lemon in the formula, it smells absolutely beautiful, and the zesty scent is also the perfect way to wake up in the morning! Once I’ve exfoliated, I make sure to use a hydrating serum and moisturiser to really get the full benefit of the scrub, and my skin feels so happy for it!
Ole Henriksen Lemonade Soothing Scrub is priced at £25 and is available here (UK) and here (US)
As someone with dry, sensitised skin, the current cold snap we’re experiencing is pretty much a nightmare. Too much time spent outdoors in chilly temperatures leaves skin red and sore, whilst huddling inside with the heating up at full blast can leave my skin feeling parched. So, I’m always on the look out for ways to calm and hydrate my skin, without leaving it feeling overwhelmed.
Katherine Daniels has come to my absolute rescue recently with her gorgeous Rehydrating Concentrate. Designed to rehydrate skin in both the short and long-term, the concentrate even works as a pollution shield, so if you’re out and about in a city, it’s a godsend. I’ve been using it for a little bit now, and have been absolutely loving the results. After cleansing in the shower, I pat my skin dry and use about half a pipette’s worth, smoothing it all over my face and neck. I then lock in the goodness with a rich moisturiser, and carry on with my routine as normal. It leaves skin super soft and nourished, and it stops the 3pm parched feeling I sometimes get at this time of year. The formula is filled with great for skin ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Seaweed Extract and Mushroom Extract which firm and moisturise, whilst Chamomile and a Moisturising Complex of Glycerine, Serine, and Trehalose calms the skin.
Katherine Daniels Rehydrating Serum is priced at £45 and is available here.
I’m not sure how I’ve managed it, but this is not the second lockdown which started about three days before my hair appointment. I’ve not had my hair cut or coloured since August, and it is in desperate need of a tidy up. On days when I have to hop on Zoom meetings, I try to tuck my ends into a scarf so they don’t look too ratty, but L’Oreal have answered my prayers with the release of their new Dream Lengths 8 Second Wonder Water.
Designed to transform hair in only eight seconds, the treatment uses amino acids and moisturising agents to lock hydration into hair, to leave hair as shiny and as healthy as possible. Rather magically, it only delivers to areas that are damaged, so hair is never overwhelmed with product, and it’s dafe to use on all hair types including colour-treated strands. I love it for combatting frizz, and it’s silicon-free as an added bonus too. I love the light, fruity scent, and it’s hydrating enough that I don’t even need to reach for the conditioner on days when I use it!
L’Oreal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths 8 Second Wonder Water is priced at £9.99 and is available here (UK) and here (US)
If you’re in the mood to make a little magic this Valentine’s Day, Edinburgh’s favourite tea shop Eteaket has just the thing in the form of their new Love Potion Box. Filled with 7 bags of their delicious teas, as well as some love potion recipes, it’s such a fun way to enjoy yourself this Valentine’s weekend!
With everything from Rose Flower Blossoms to a rather indulgent Chocolate Abyss, there really is a tea for everyone, and I love the fact that the box comes complete with recipes for drinks both alcoholic and virgin.
The box is also the perfect way to try some of the brand’s most-loved teas out – and it’s such a lovely ritual to take some time in the morning to brew a real pot of tea and savour a few minutes before the day really gets going.
Eteaket Edinburgh’s Love Potion Box is priced at £17.95 and is available here
