Kiehl’s on Wheels hits Edinburgh*

DSC_0689Last week, on a rare sunny evening, I meandered over to George Street after work to check out the most colourful display on George Street. Kiehl’s brand new bus rolled into town a week or so ago, and has been providing the city with the best beauty products ever since.

Considering I use and adore at least five separate Kiehl’s every morning, it was a no brainer that I would head down and see what the brand was up to, plus it’s always fun to go to blogger events. Kiehl’s, I’m glad to say, didn’t disappoint – with the most adorable picnic benches laden with goodie bags, it was so lovely to meet some Edinburgh-based bloggers.

After some introductions, as well as a snoop around the Kiehl’s bus (it’s packed with brand favourites for skin, hair and body) it was time for the evening to begin. We packed into the benches, and got to grips with learning all about the best of what Kiehl’s have to offer.

Jennifer (from Tartan Brunette) bravely volunteered to be the model for the evening, letting Kiehl’s expert Holly demonstrate how to best use and apply each product.

Starting right from the basics, we sniffed, rubbed and patted in a whole shelf of products, falling harder in love each time. There were a tonne of old favourites, including many which I use on a daily basis, but getting to try out products like the Ultra Facial Cleanser, means that my wish list has grown rather long since last week!

There was a lucky-dip prize at the end of the evening, which the very lucky (and lovely) Emma from unf4bul0us won, and we all toddled home, clutching our groaning Kiehl’s bags. Very kindly, we were treated to a mix of hero products as well as some treats from a Scottish pop-up across the street, which I’ve been using ever since – I’d forgotten how great Kiehl’s old-school lip balm is! There was also a full size bottle of the new Cactus Flower Hydrating Mist, which is super handy, as I’ve blown through half of my first bottle already!

The bus will be chilling in the middle of George Street for the next week or so, and then is starts up it’s travels again. So, if you hear it’s heading down your way, pop in, say hello, and treat yourself to something lovely!

Thank you to Holly, Kiehl’s and Kiehl’s on Wheels for having me!

Dermalogica launches their new Phyto Replenish Oil at Harvey Nichols Edinburgh*

DSC_0769

When an invite arrived in my inbox inviting me to the launch of a brand new Dermalogica product at Harvey Nichols, you can imagine how quickly I RSVP’d. I love a good skincare evening – the chance to learn about new products, as well as have a bit of a play around with them is always great fun, plus I just love learning insider tips from those in the know!

DSC_0831

So, on Thursday I popped into Edinburgh’s Harvey Nichols store for the pre-launch of Dermalogica’s brand new Phyto Replenish Oil. Not only was it a chance to have a bit of a play with the new oil, but it was also something of a launch for the Dermalogica counter which has only been around for six or so weeks.

DSC_0599

It’s an absolute beast of a counter, full of hi-tech corners with iPads mounted on the counter and informational videos. It’s a counter like no other – if you pick up an item, an accompanying screen lights up and tells you all about it, as well as how to best apply and use it. The whole experience is very interactive and educational, and I can’t wait to head back in to play around with it a bit more!

So, after sitting down with a glass of Harvey Nichols Prosecco (which, I should add, is just delicious) we were introduced to Jean-Paul, Dermalogica’s only male skincare expert, who was leading the evening’s presentation. As well as learning about the new oil, we were treated to a demonstration of a FaceFit treatment, and taught all about facial massage.

DSC_0757

As someone with dry skin, I’m a big fan of facial oils – I apply one most nights, and I use a drop in my foundation daily, but I can understand why some people might be nervous. It’s easy to assume that using an oil will automatically make skin look wet or greasy, but since Dermalogica’s is non comedogenic, it doesn’t clog pores, instead it just disappears into the skin.

The Phyto Replenish Oil is filled with goodness from Chia Oils among many other super hydrating and lightweight ingredients, and I can’t even tell you how good it feels on the skin. After passing a couple of bottles around the audience, we were instructed in a number of facial massages which have been specially designed to hydrate and moisturise.

I’ve already started to include a little facial massage into my evening routine, so I’ll let you know if I start to see a difference! Then, we were all treated to some facial mapping. It’s a great little service that Dermalogica offer to see what and where your skin needs a little more TLC, and it’s nice to know your doing all the right things! Then, it was time to head home, laden with the most generous of goody bags – I was very kindly gifted a full size bottle of the Phyto Replenish Oil, which I’ve been testing all weekend. I’ll have a full review up soon, but spoiler alert – it’s a gem!

Dermalogica’s Phyto Replenish Oil launches on September 1st

*Thank you to Harvey Nichols Edinburgh and Dermalogica for inviting me to the event.

Sisley Gentle Buffing Facial Cream

Sisley Gentle Buffing Facial Cream

Sisley is one of those brands I can’t help but love. Everything about them, from the packaging, to the products themselves, just feels so wonderfully chic and luxurious. The Gentle Buffing Facial Cream is no different.

Sisley Gentle Buffing Facial Cream 1

I first read about the Gentle Facial Buffing Cream about a year ago in a US magazine. The article warned that after this one, no other exfoliator would do. I scoffed a little, wondering what could be so different about a buffing cream, then moved on to something else.

But something happened when I was at the Sisley counter – I couldn’t get the article out of my head, and I just had to try it, even just prove something to myself. Well, I have to tell you something – this one’s a game changer!

As someone with sensitive skin, I do have to be careful when exfoliating. Too little leaves my skin looking completely dry and blah, too much, it’s sensitised and pink. Neither option is exactly ideal, but thankfully, Sisley’s Gentle Buffing Facial Cream is just perfection. After cleansing my skin, on slightly damp skin, I apply a little of the mask all over myself, much like a regular clay mask.

The scent is pleasingly light and soapy-smelling, and it just takes five minutes for the mask to dry out and slightly harden. Then, standing over the sink, I take my fingers and sweep them over my skin in an upwards motion. The Gentle Buffing Cream just kind of crumbles away, taking the dead skin with it. I cannot even begin to tell you how soft my skin feels after I use it, and it never feels too dried out or tight after using it. Instead my face feels truly refreshed, and my makeup applies like a dream!

Sisley Gentle Buffing Facial Cream is priced at £49.50 and is available here (UK) and here (US)

Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate for Night*

Liz Earl Superskin Concentrate for Night

As someone with chronically dry and dehydrated skin, I’m always on the lookout for new products which will help to calm and hydrate. Even though the weather isn’t feeling as cold and harsh as usual, I still like to add as much hydration to my routine as possible.

Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate for night review

If, like me, your skin is prone to any sort of dryness or sensitivity, I would seriously recommend trying it out – I’ve been using it nightly, and I have just been loving it! Every evening, after a good cleansing session, I take a drop or two of the oil in my fingertips, warm it up a little then press into skin.

I then give myself something of a mini-facial massage, either using my fingers or my little butterfly. It lets the Superskin Concentrate really soak into my skin, and I can feel if any areas need an extra drop or two. I just love how quickly the formula sinks in, leaving my face and neck feeling soothed and nourished, and the scent is just delightful.

Filled with skin saviours like Hazelnut, Rosehip, Lavender, Neroli, Avocado and Argan Oils, as well as Vitamin E, Liz Earle’s Superskin Concentrate couldn’t really be better for skin. I’ve really noticed a difference in my skin the mornings after using the Concentrate – it feels more supple and smoother. I’ve even dabbled in adding the tiniest drop to my foundation on days where my skin is feeling extra parched – it adds a really beautiful subtle radiance which lasted all day. If you’re headed off somewhere hot this summer, I would also recommend tucking a bottle of this into your case – it’s perfect for healing skin that’s seen a little too much of the sun!

Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate is priced at £60.00 and is available here (UK) and here (US)

Lancome Energie de Vie Liquid Moisturiser*

Lancome Energie de vie base

So it’s pretty rare that I receive a product and it goes directly into my everyday must-have beauty bag. I usually tinker around with them for a while and then move onto the next new thing, but happily, Lancome’s brand new Energie de Vie range has completely blown me away! I reviewed their overnight mask here and I’m still absolutely in love! For daily use though, every morning I’ve been smoothing the new Liquid Moisturiser onto freshly cleansed skin as a sort of soothing, moisturising base.

Lancome Energie de vie base 1

The product is inspired by Korean beauty (I’m completely obsessed by it) and is designed to smooth and soften skin, making it look and feel beautifully soft and smooth. If you suffer from oily skin, I think you could probably get away with using this as your daily moisturiser, although since I have quite dry skin, I absolute love the extra dose of hydration I get with this. You only need 1-2 pumps of the formula, which feels like a super light gel, and it just disappears into the skin. It’s a perfect product for summer as it feels so soothing and cooling to apply, and I love the light, fresh scent too!

Lancome’s Energie de Vie is priced at £28.00 and is available here (UK) and here (US)
