Nails Inc After Gel Hangover Cure 10 in 1 Nail Treatment

Nails inc After Gel Hangover Cure 10 in 1 Nail Treatment

Despite my best intentions, my nails never really get to the stage of looking really good. I know that it’s partly my fault – I do sit and pick and my cuticles a bit, which is a habit I do need to break. But, my nails are also quite thin, with a propensity for breaking and peeling, so, in an effort to grow them, I snapped up the new Nails Inc After Gel Hangover Cure.

Even though I’ve sworn off gel nails (I got them done once about five years ago, and my nails were paper thin for months after getting them removed), most of my nail problems seem similar to the ones caused by gels, so this seemed like a rather perfect product!

Packaged in one of Nails Inc’s signature bottles (although they change so regularly it’s hard to keep up!) the After Gel promises to be a ten in one product. The lofty claims include strengthening, hardening and protecting nails, all whilst leaving them with a pretty gloss.

In between manicures (as well as painting my nails myself), I’ve been painting on a light layer of the treatment onto clean, bare nails, and leaving it on for a day or so. It applies exactly like a regular polish, and it does leave a lovely glossy shine. The formula is filled with ingredients like Kale, Keratin and Argan Oil to hydrate and nourish, so it’s perfect if you’ve got iffy little nails like me!

I have to say that I’ve been rather impressed with Nails Inc’s offering. Sure, I haven’t grown talons of my own yet, but my nails do feel sturdier. They aren’t peeling as much, and they’ve grown a little, allowing my to wear some cute red and pink polishes (when I normally stick to darks and neutrals). It’s such a great and easy way of taking care of your nails, and weirdly, I love the fact that they’re acknowledging the damage gels actual do – I’ve been told so many times that I should opt for a shellac or gel instead of my regular varnish that it’s so annoying to go through my weakened my nails actually are. I’m not sure it’s really a ten-in-one treatment, but it gives real strength to weakened nails, and that’s all that I’m after!

Nails Inc After Gel Hangover Cure 10-in-1 Treatment is priced at £9.50 and is available here.

Chanel Le Vernis – Roubachka

Chanel Le Vernis RoubouchkaOk, so I think it’s fair to say that I have something of a Chanel problem. I can’t get enough of their leather goods or beauty, and even though their Vernis formula has been seriously lacking in the quality department, I can’t stop myself buying new ones. Despite the fact my manis chip hours after being completed, I just can’t get enough of the brand. So, when I read that the entire nail polish line was getting a makeover, I couldn’t resist trying it out!

To someone not quite as obsessed with the brand, the bottles might look the same, but, if like me, you’re a bit of a buff, you’ll notice that they’ve been paired back and now no longer have the colour names or numbers on the front. They also claim to be super long lasting when used alongside the Le Gel Coat, so of course, I had to grab both!

Chanel Le Vernis Roubouchka Swatch

Honestly though, I kind of wish I hadn’t. I tried Roubachka for the first time last week, and it’s the same as it’s always been. The colour itself is a truly beautiful inky purple which looks black in some lights and almost egg-plant in others. It applied smoothly and was a rich opaque in two coats. I started the manicure with a Chanel base coat, and finished up with the new Le Gel Coat, and was so impressed with how quickly the polish dried, and how shiny it was. Unfortunately though, that’s where my gushing stops. In under 12 hours I had my first chip, and within 15 every scrap of polish had been peeled off. It’s something of an understatement to say I’m disappointed. I absolutely adore Chanel’s colours, and I was really looking forward to collecting a few more, but, considering this one didn’t even last a full day, I don’t think I’m prepared to fork out again.

Chanel Le Vernis is priced at £18.00 and you can find it here (UK) and here (US)

So I think it’s safe to say that I’ve fallen pretty head-over-heels for the Paul & Joes Beauty line. It’s such unique looking set of products which feel so special to use. So, when I got the chance to try their nail enamel in 011 Helitrope, I absolutely jumped at the chance!

Packaged in one of the brand’s signature whimsical bottles, 011 Helitrope is a stunning peachy pink, which is just the perfect choice for spring! I’ve been dying to get some colour into my wardrobe, so this felt just right!

The polish applied smoothly and evenly, and I only needed two coats for glossy, even coverage. It looks so fun on, and I’ve been obsessed with how pretty it looks! I got a good four days before I noticed any chipping or tip-wear, which is seriously impressive considering I spent about 80% of last week typing away! Be warned, Heliotrope is part of Paul & Joe’s Spring 2016 collection, and is limited edition, so, if you’re after gorgeous candy-pink nails, you’d better be quick!

Paul & Joe Nail Enamel in Heliotrope is priced at £12.00

Holly Blue Salon, Church Hill, Edinburgh*

DSC_0037

I’m always looking for the best little spots to go to in Edinburgh, and on Thursday I found an absolute gem in the form of the Holly Blue salon on Church Street in Edinburgh’s Morningside.

DSC_0040

I first popped in as part of a bring a friend evening, where we got to have a look around the salon, sip bubbly, chatwith the therapists, and watch as magic was performed in the form of HD Brows and LVL Lashes demonstrations.

DSC_0036

The salon itself offers every sort of treatment from waxing to manis and pedis, so when I got the chance to try one of their signature manicures using CND Vinylux polish, I absolutely jumped at the chance!

DSC_0041

So, last night, after a rather tiring day at work, I hopped up to Morningside for an hour or so of pampering!

DSC_0006

The salon itself is a little jewel box of relaxation, tucked away from the buzz of the city. High ceilings, soft music and butterflies all combine to create the absolute perfect place to get all girly -There are shelves and shelves of polishes, shellac and glitter to choose from, so you can imagine how excited I was!

DSC_0008

Since my nails were’t in exactly in tip top condition, I opted for a neutral shade of Vinylux polish. I’d never tried CND’s new formula before, but since it promises up to seven days of shiny, chip-free wear, I went for a stunning baby pink (middle row third from right).

DSC_0035

I was looked after by Sophie, who, by all accounts is a complete miracle worker! My dry and ragged cuticles were clipped, nails filed, buffed and shaped, and within an hour I swear, my nails looked longer and felt a million times better!

DSC_0015

The CND Vinylux applied smoothly, and was completely opaque in two coats. It even dried remarkably quickly! I haven’t really stopped looking at my hands since it was done, as the look and feel so much better than before. I love a pale pink or super vampy nail, but if you’re braver than me, Holly Blue offer the widest selection of glitters and nail art you can imagine! I’ve already booked up my next appointment!

Thank you so much to Holly Blue Salon for having me!

Essie Prêt a Surfer*

Essie Pret a Surfer

To say that the weather has been could for the past couple of weeks is something of an understatement. The sun has hardly peeked out, and as a result, I’ve been at something of a quandary about what colour to choose for my pedicures. I feel like black is a bit dull considering we’re in the middle of July, and my usual bright reds and pinks just feel a little tired. Essie’s new Pret-a-Surfer shade, though feels incredibly fresh to wear.

Essie Pret a Surfer 1

Described as ‘marine blue,’ Pret-a-Surfer is a stunning creamy shade which veers from almost denim to milky depending on the light. The application of the polish was perfect – almost opaque in one coat, and completely in two. The colour applied evenly, and it dried to a glossy finish – everything you could ask for in a summer polish!Essie Pret a Surfer swatch

Essie Prêt a Surfer is priced at £7.99 and is available here (UK) and here (US)
