Maybelline Baby Lips Glosses*

Maybelline Baby Lips Glosses

I’m not sure about you, but by the time it gets around to being a Friday, I’m always in the mood to treat myself. I usually find myself wandering around SpaceNK or Harvey Nichols, desperate to find something that’s not too expensive but is still a nice little find. Now though, Boots has been my port of call, as I have fallen completely in love with Maybelline’s new Baby Lips lip glosses – the proof? I may have bought myself three new colours since these two popped through the door!

Maybelline Baby Lips Gloss - A Wink of pink gloss

The packaging for glosses is pretty standard – the white cap is emblazoned with the Maybelline Baby Lips logo, and the gloss itself is in a clear tube which means selecting a colour from my makeup bag couldn’t be easier. Wink of Pink is a stunning, warm toned pink gloss which is shot through with golden shimmer. On the lips, the gloss feels surprising rich and balmy (these aren’t in any way sticky) and they give a sheer hint of shimmer with a flattering sheen of gloss. As you might imagine, since the glosses are part of the Baby Lips collection, they promise to moisturize, which, now we’re in the middle of summer, is much needed!

The formula of the gloss really feels surprisingly luxe. Everything from the doe foot applicator to the fruity scent feels well thought out, and I’ve been reaching for them more regularly than my normal Chanel or Dior choices. The wear-time might not be hours long, but the glosses are so cute and affordable, I don’t really mind topping them up!

Maybelline Baby Lips Gloss - Fab & Fuchsia

Possibly my most reached-for shade this week has been Fab and Fuchsia. In the tube it looks like a neon-Barbie dream of a gloss, but it’s far more subtle on the lips. It just gives a super sheer wash of shine with a subtle pink tint. Again, it has the brand’s signature fruity sweet scent, but I kind of love it, and the non-sticky formula is just so comfortable to wear, I’ve actually picked myself up a backup!

Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Glosses are priced at £4.99 each and are available here.

Lancome Juicy Shakers – Mangoes Wild & Lemon Explosion*

When I was at school, Lancome Juicy Tubes were a seriously big deal – you were no-one if you didn’t have at least a tube of the stuff poking out of your blazer. I think I’ve blazed through every colour they have, and I still keep their Lychee shade to hand if I’m after an easy pink glossy lip. So, when I found out Lancome was releasing a whole new take on lipgloss, I just had to try it out!

The brand new Juicy Shakers are available in 14 stunning shades, and are a hybrid of pigment and lip oil, which means you get a pretty lip colour as well as a real kick of moisture. They’re also a perfect choice if you want a product which is going to keep your lips in great condition too!DSC_0558

The packaging is inspired by an old Lancome lipstick which looked like a cocktail shaker, and before you use the glosses, you just give them a good shake. You can see the pigment and oil combine, and the more you shake them, the more intense colour you get. If, like me, you’re going to collect a couple of them, it’s great fun, as they all have different flavours and scents.

When I first got my hands on the two, I figured that they would be super sheer washes of colour, with the same, slightly sticky feel of my beloved Juicy Tubes. I couldn’t be more wrong! Mangoes Wild, especially, is a surprisingly vivid hit of pink-toned red which brightens the complexion, and makes teeth look super white. The feel of the Juicy Shakers is something completely new too!

You apply the Shakers using the sponge applicator tips which are super soft, and let the goodness sink in. The formula is incredibly lightweight, and silky soft thanks to the inclusion of sweet almond oil, omega 3 and cranberry oil. They leave lips feeling silky, with a perfect wash of colour. The lighter of my two (Lemon Explosion) has gone right into my handbag for day-to-day touch ups. It’s a sheer, slightly shimmery peachy-pink and it’s an effortless way to feel pulled together on the go.

I’m just obsessed with the non-sticky gloss and beautiful colours (I’ve already picked up a rather fetching Mint to Be) you’ve got to check these out!

Lancome Juicy Shakers are priced at £18.00 each and are available here (UK) and here (US)

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick – Magenta Matte*

Recently, like most people, I’ve loving a matte lip, it feels fun to wear, and makes a change from my usual glosses. It feels a little more dressed up to wear, and I’m just in love with Smashbox’s Be Legendary Matte Formula.

Packaged in Smashbox’s signature slick black bullet, Magenta Matte is the most beautiful, perfect pink which feels so right for the upcoming long Easter weekend! It’s a real show-stopping Barbie pink, which I have absolutely fallen in love with!

Before applying, I like to prep my lips with a favourite scrub (this one) and balm (Sisley, review to come) so that the colour applies smoothly and evenly. The Be Legendary lipstick formula is the stuff of dreams! Unlike a lot of matte lipsticks, Smashbox’s offering is silky soft, and doesn’t pull or tug on the lips.

For a soft, diffused look, I apply the lipstick with my fingers, dabbing the colour into the centre of my lips, and blending out. For a more vibrant feel, I apply straight from the bullet, using a lip brush to clean everything up. The colour payoff from the lipstick is incredible, and the longevity you get is really wonderful. After applying, I easily get 4-5 hours of wear before I feel the need to touch up, and even when it’s fading a little, it leaves lips with the prettiest pink stain which looks perfect under a little balm.

Smashbox Be Legendary Magenta Matte is priced at £17.00 and is available here (UK) and here (US)

Models Own Festival Collection – Pink Wellies & Colour Explosion

DSC_0468

So, it’s a rather dull Monday, so I thought, what could be better than sharing a couple of the happiest looking nail varnishes which have just been released as part of the Models Own Festival Collection.

Models Own Pink Wellies Nail Polish

Pink Wellies might just be my favourite colour of the season. It’s a true neon pink, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to get a tan so I can rock the brightest nails all summer long! The formula was surprisingly easy to work with, considering my other neon polishes from Essie tend to streak easily and are usually watery, but this had great coverage!

Models Own Pink Wellies Swatch

My photos show it coming up a little on the watermelon side, but it’s pinker in real life. For swatches, I used two coats, and both applied smoothly and evenly. The polished dried to a slightly rubber-look consistency, so for a shiny finish, I would definitely recommend a top coat. It’s an absolutely killer colour though, and I’ve already earmarked it for my next pedi!

Models Own Colour Explosion Nail Polish

The second polish from the collection I’ve tried is Colour Explosion which is a multi-dimensional glitter suspended in a clear base. I was actually surprised at how much I like it!

Models Own Colour Explosion Swatch

It was super easy to get an even coverage of sparkle, and I think the little bits of colour look so pretty! It really does remind me of confetti at the end of a big music concert! In the swatches, I’ve painted one layer on a bare nail and one on Pink Wellies. It just looks so fun!

Will you be wearing Models Own to a festival this year?

Both polishes are priced at £4.99 each and are available here
