Harvey Nichols Edinburgh – Menswear for Father’s Day*

DSC_0617

I always think buying presents for  men is super hard – and Father’s Day might just be trickiest. Thankfully though, Harvey Nichols has come to our rescue with their relaunched Menswear Department.

DSC_0622

Designed after the flagship Knightsbridge store, The menswear department is definitely the chicest spot to shop for Dad anywhere outside the capital, and to celebrate, the store held a super-fun weekend filled with special services for the discerning shopper. As you arrived up the elevators, you were met with the cutest little bars serving up Arbikie – an incredible Scottish Gin and Vodka distillery.

As if that wasn’t enough, you could personalise the most luxurious of items – Grenson let you make up your ideal shoes, picking every detail from leathers to laces.

They could be as subtle or crazy as you could imagine, and the example shoes were absolutely breathtaking.

DSC_0593

My favourite part of the whole event though, was the Etch’d stand, which, with an in-store purchase meant that you could get specially laser-personalised.

DSC_0582

Even though I was expecting just initials, Etch’d can personalise basically anything with a flat surface, and I can’t tell you how awesome their pieces looked! Considering the chaps come from a graphic-design background, their designs were insane!

DSC_0578

Based in Tollcross, you can even get phones and laptops laser etched, and I am seriously considering getting my laptop done. It’s just the coolest!

DSC_0600

It’s not just electronics and perfume bottles which got the special treatment though, even shoes and sneakers were etched.

DSC_0598

Since I couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by, I popped down to the beauty department to find something etch-able, so treated myself to Omorovicza’s Perfecting Lip Balm. It’s something I’ve been wanting since my facial (here) and the flat lid was perfect for the laser.

DSC_0613

I couldn’t be happier with my rather special balm, and I would seriously recommend heading up to Harvey Nichols’ first floor. The menswear section couldn’t be better, and it’s absolutely packed with awesome Father’s Day gift ideas!

Omorovicza Perfecting Lip Balm is priced at £32.00 (I did receive a discount on mine) and is available in-store. You can find Omorovicza here.

Harvey Nichols Edinburgh – An Evening of Beauty*

DSC_1094

Last week I was very kindly invited to attend Harvey Nichols Edinburgh’s Evening of Beauty, a semi-annual event which celebrates the best in new season beauty, and gets you completely ready for the new season.

DSC_1127

Greeted with rows and rows of Harvey Nichols’ own prosecco (seriously, it’s delicious and I currently have three bottles of the stuff in my fridge) the Evening of Beauty is simply the most glamorous way to treat yourself to what’s brand new in beauty as well as really treat yourself!

DSC_1120

The Harvey Nichols’ beauty department is something of a makeup lover’s dream at the best of times, but for the Evening of Beauty, they really went all out! Experts were posted at every beauty counter, to best advise on which products to go for, as well as offer wonderfully luxurious little treats.

DSC_1144

Getting to wander around, prosecco in hand really made for a wonderful atmosphere, as everyone gathered round to see the best ways to fill in brows, get hand massages and sample the newest products.

DSC_1108

There was also a serious incentive for treating yourself – at the moment, if you spend over £200 on two or more products in a single purchase, you get the most glorious of gifts. A gorgeous little makeup bag, curated by Violet Grey which contains some real must-haves! Even better? If you spend over £200 at Sisley you get an additional makeup bag absolutely packed with Sisley favourites. I’m still trying to decide what to go for – I’m thinking a pot of my Shea day cream, their lip balm and a new Phyto Twist?!

DSC_1150

Another counter I’m thinking of treating myself at is, of course, Creme de la Mer. I’m a big fan of the brand, and I’ve kept a pot of their original cream in my stash since I was about 16. It’s a serious investment, but nothing calms and evens out my skin like it, and I’ve been dying to try out their makeup line!

DSC_1154

The new perfume niche was also a rather wonderful place to spend a little time. Not only was the Creed display absolutely beautiful, but the selection of perfumes to choose from is incredible. They have such a well-curated department that holds brands like my favourite Atelier Cologne, they also have Killian fragrances, as well as of course, Creed.

DSC_1136

As if all the beauty treats weren’t enough, a seriously impressive fashion illustrator was on hand for the prettiest portraits you can imagine! Unfortunately, I had to dash off for my lift before I could secure a spot, but I so wish I had gotten one – can you imagine how good these would look framed!?

Thank you so much to Harvey Nichols Edinburgh for having me!

James Webster at Laura Mercier – Harvey Nichols Edinburgh*

DSC_0756

So I’m not sure that there are better ways to begin a Friday evening than getting primed and preened at the Harvey Nichols’ Laura Mercier counter by makeup artist James Webster. Fresh from beautifying celebrities at the Brit Awards and BAFTAs, James spent the weekend in Edinburgh.

DSC_0767

So, after settling on an amped-up neutrals look, James got to work whilst I quizzed him over everything from serums to lipgloss. As well as being the loveliest of chaps, he is ridiculously knowledgeable. Getting the chance to play with everything from skincare to mascaras really gives you the opportunity to find out which products are going to work best for you, and I guarantee, if you pop into the store you’re going to come away with the  longest wish list you can imagine!

DSC_0747

As James created the most beautiful, effortless smoky eye (with the most lust-worthy selection of shadows and brushes) I quizzed him on the best ways to apply foundation (worked into the skin with a sponge) as well as on his favourite Laura Mercier products. The hour absolutely flew by, and I found a whole slew of products I need in my arsenal (namely a hydrating skin spray, the rose skin serum and cream, a new tube of Radiance Primer and a rather delightful lipstick).

If you’re in the mood for a bit of a Spring re-do of your makeup bag, I would seriously recommend hitting up your nearest Harvey Nichols’ Laura Mercier!

Harvey Nichols – The Art of Style*

Harvey Nichols - The Art of Style

If you’re from Edinburgh, you’ll know how glorious Tuesday was. It was the perfect Autumn evening – all golden light and cool breezes, and it was an absolute joy to walk down George Street to Harvey Nichols to attend their Art of Style Trend Presentation.

DSC_0403

DSC_0404

Nestled in the middle of all of this season’s most beautiful clothes, I got to attend the most fabulous panel discussion which focused on the links between art and fashion (i.e. my main two loves)! As an Art History major, I can seriously geek out over the tiniest brushstroke or fabric pattern, so the evening was a must for me!

Harvey Nichols - The Art of Style 4

Designed as the pinnacle of Harvey Nichols’ The Art of Style calendar, the panel of speakers was really something special – the iconic Molly Parkin, Harvey Nichols’ Buying Partner Darren Skey, Project Director of Fashion at Edinburgh College of Art Mal Burkinshaw along with Anne Lyden the Curator of Photography at National Galleries of Scotland.

Discussions ranged from Molly Parkins’ rather unorthodox childhood in a Welsh mining town to the technicalities faced by fashion buyers, as well as the on-going David Bailey exhibition currently showing at the National Portrait Gallery not to mention the burgeoning number of students currently flooding fashion schools. We even got a glimpse of Molly’s technicolor do!

The conversation flowed freely for over an hour, and the chance to ask such a distinguished panel questions was a real thrill! I don’t think I’m alone in saying that I could have easily sat listening to everyone chat for hours, and once the panel had concluded, there was a chance to chat to everyone, resulting in the most interesting discussions which were wonderfully plied by the free flowing prosecco (Harvey Nichols’ own is absolutely delicious I have to say!) Chatting with both Molly and Anne was really incredible, and I’ve already arranged a trip with friends to visit the David Bailey Stardust exhibition next week (it’s on until the 18th of October).

Thank you so much to Harvey Nichols for inviting me to this event.

Harvey Nichols A Beautiful Mind Event

DSC_0011

Whenever I feel like treating myself to something a little luxurious, Harvey Nichols Edinburgh is always my first stop. The beauty hall is something to behold – all white and glossy and filled with the most marvellous cosmetics you can imagine!

DSC_0050

DSC_0054

So, you can understand how excited I was when I heard about last night’s A Beautiful Mind event. To allow you to  fully get to grips with everything new in the world of Beauty, Harvey Nichols sometime hosts evenings like this. They are such a wonderful idea – the rest of the store is closed, so you feel like you’ve been let loose in the department, which is just filled with experts and people as obsessed with beauty as you are!

DSC_0089

Absolutely every brand in-store takes part, which means you get to have a chat with everyone from Chanel to Sisely, and if you are interested in any products, they are more than happy to let you play about with it!

DSC_0067

DSC_0110

Since most of the brands have new releases at this time of year, it is the perfect way to learn about the newest lotions and potions.

DSC_0080

DSC_0114

Throughout the evening there were demonstrations on everything from how to contour to fillers thanks to the store’s own MediSpa, and it was just blissful floating from counter to counter learning about what’s new!

Prosecco helped the evening to start with a pop, and those who were after a slightly more healthful option were catered to with Kale shots courtesy of Nails Inc and a whole selection of drinks from Tea Pig. (On another note, how awesome are the Nails Inc girls’ sweatshirts! I was severely jealous!)

DSC_0125

DSC_0118

I could have spent the entire evening swatching away, chatting about all the new and beautiful things which are new in for Spring! I have now added several items to my (already overly long) wish list, and I may have purchased a few of my new must haves!

*Thank you to Harvey Nichols Edinburgh for inviting me to A Beautiful Mind evening*
