So even though I’ll be a subtle glossy-lip girl for life, more and more frequently I’ve been adding a matte lip into my routine to change things up a little. Paired with glossy, natural skin and a defined brow, I love how modern it looks, and it’s such a fun (not to mention easy) way to update my makeup bag.
Packaged in a sleek, brushed bullet, The Maybelline Color Sensation lipstick in Nude Embrace has been one of my little favourites to achieve a flattering nude lip look. I’ve mentioned before, that I think Maybelline have really upped their game recently, and most of the products I’ve tried from them wouldn’t feel out of place on a high-end makeup counter. Happily, their Color Sensational Matte Lipstick is no different! The formula is super pigmented, with a creamy colour payoff that’s up there with my premium lipsticks. Nude Sensational is one of six available shades, which run the gamut from deep berries to milky pinks. Mine is somewhere in the middle, as a beautiful warm toned neutral.
After buffing my lips, I apply a little balm (I’m a fan of Sisley or Omorovicza) then apply straight from the tube. The colour applies easily and evenly, and I have completely opaque coverage with a quick swipe. Like most matte formulas, Maybelline’s doesn’t feel super hydrating, but it’s easy to touch up with a little balm as the day goes on. The wear-time for the lipstick is pretty good going too! I got four hours of wear before I felt the colour was fading a bit and needed touching up. The only downside is the rather strong vanilla fragrance. I’m not the biggest vanilla fan in the world, so this feels a little ott, but considering the gorgeous colour and impressive staying power, I don’t really mind too much!
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks are priced at £6.99 each and are available here (UK) and here (US)
