When it comes to choosing a great base, I admit to being rather picky. I like something that evens out my skin tone without looking or feeling too heavy. I also like formulas which have skin benefits like SPF so I don’t need to apply a dozen products each morning.

Smashbox’s new Camera Ready BB Water checks all my requirements, and it’s not like any base I’ve seen before, so of course, I just had to try it!

Unlike regular BB creams, Smashbox’s new Camera Ready BB Water has a water-light consistency, which hydrates skin throughout the day, and has a SPF 30 to protect against sun damage. The line has a choice of eight colours (mine is Fair) and the BB Water comes in a glass jar with stopper so it’s incredibly easy to apply. Depending on how sheer you want the coverage to be, you can apply to a sponge or directly to the face.

When Smashbox have described this foundation as a BB Water, they really mean it! It’s absolutely weightless, and even when I apply the formula directly to my skin, I can’t feel a single thing. Instead of feeling heavy, drying or cake-y, the BB Water just disappears into skin, eradicating any dreaded redness, and leaving an even complexion with the perfect amount of radiance. For such a lightweight foundation, it has serious staying power – even after a busy day my skin looks even, and I don’t need to worry about my skin feeling gross or dried out. It also keeps me feeling super fresh – when I’ve been wearing this I never get that feeling where I want to claw my face off. Instead, my skin stays hydrated  and my colouring stays in place!
